Abortion and Life ... What If?

No videos today. No links for you to 'fact check' today. Just my own posting. My own thoughts.

We all know the 'debate' that has been going on for decades regarding ' A Woman's Right to Choose' and 'Abortion' ... with all the hate, villification and crimes against people and property that have been "justified" over this issue.

We also know that all of our established "religions" and 'Spiritual' teachings talk about an after-life of some kind where your 'You', your "identity", your "soul" if you will, live on again in some type of "Heaven" or some type of "Hell". We all understand that. We also have the 'understanding' that no matter how "Bad" we have been in this life, there are ways to "redeem" onself in the eyes of God so we can somehow "go to Heaven". (And, vice versa.) That 'Redemption' is in our PERSONAL (emphasize PERSONAL) control ... somehow.

That means is that our physical bodies are SEPARATE from our "Spiritual" bodies, our "souls".

With that being the basis of understanding, it would seem that the "Right-to-Life"-ers have the belief that the 'removal' (or any type of 'abortion') of a fetus of any size presumably does IRREPARABLE harm to the 'soul' or 'spirit' that is presumed to be contained within that fetus. Murder!!! They Shout!

That would seem to mean that a woman would have control over the ETERNAL destiny (of the assumed soul within) not only a just-fertilized egg but also any unborn fetus.

Not only that but that an 'aborted' fetus' "soul" is somehow irrereparably harmed by that abortion. Murder!! They Shout!!

Since, NONE of us REALLY know whether or not those statements of outrage are based on objective FACT, one could reasonably conclude that the best answer we can come up with would depend on how we view "God": As a 'Punisher' of our "Sins" .... or as a "Forgiver" of our "Sins". I believe that the best parent on this earth would be more like the latter. And since all of our religious writings describe us as "Children of God" I prefer to believe that "My" God is a forgiving God as well.

So, how about this possibility?

What if ... "In God's Plan" for you .... "He" had consigned zero, 1, 2, 3 or whatever number of "souls" to your care no matter how many 'conceptions' had occurred? With the mother 'losing' some ... for whatever reason ... over the years. Abortions or mis-carriages; whichever.

For example, 'You' are consigned 3 souls to bring into this existence. That means 'You' could start at age 16 .... with 'Your' first pregnancy resulting in "Soul #1" entrusted to your care being born.

Or, 'You' could 'lose' any number of "conceptions" starting at age 16 ... naturally or unnaturally ... but, at age 28 "Soul #1" is born to 'you'.

Either way, 'You' have brought "Soul #1" into this existence ... just at different times. And any number of 'failed' physical bodies in the intervening years being either "lost"; for whatever reason including war, illness ..... or, abortion.

In this 'What If' scenario, "Soul #1" is still "Your" child but 'You' don't have eternal control over its destiny or its ability to eventually "G0 to Heaven" as a result if YOUR actions.

Isn't such a scenario much more in line with the intent contained within many of our "religions" or "Spiritual" teachings?

It sure seems that way to me ... and if it were true, it would sure seem to take away most if not all of the "Rightful!" outrage, judgement and behavior. And might give us all a reason to be more forgiving of one another's choices; knowing that NONE of us is perfect OR "ALL KNOWING".

We ... CAN ... make mistakes ("Sin" is the Aramaic word for 'mistake') but can learn from them and grow. And are not 'Condemned to eternal HELL!' for them.

THAT is how I think God really works. My God anyway.

MOST IMPORTANT U.S. Supreme Court Case in Decades, MAYBE FOREVER!

You probably had no idea that today, September 9, 2009, one of the most important cases in U.S. Supreme Court history was being 'argued'. In fact, there is probably less than a 1 in 10 chance you would have heard about it in our corporation-controlled media; ESPECIALLY not on FOX.

First, ask yourself: "Did you know that multi-national corporations have the same rights (and more) as you have?" For example 'free' speech and the other freedoms granted under our U.S. Constitution. Did you know that? (The answer is: "Yes". But only recently. Our founding fathers knew the dangers of unrestricted corporate 'life' and power. In fact, many of our states' early laws prohibited them from 'living' longer than 20 years because they knew the dangers ... that we simply ignore now.)

According to PBS's Bill Moyers: The Supreme Court is returning early from its summer recess to consider a potential watermark case that could overturn a century of campaign finance restrictions and clear the way for unregulated spending by corporations on political campaigns.

What does this mean to you?

Well, if you think that corporate BRIBERY of our politicians is bad now, just wait until (GW Bush's) U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice (and former corporate 'rights' attorney) John Roberts removes ALL restrictions from corporate spending in political campaigns.

How will you, the citizen, be able to ... in ANY way ... offset the power of corporations that can 'donate' millions or hundreds of millions of dollars to local and national campaigns? You won't. That will be "IT" ... the end ... of our country's experiment as a 'Representative Democracy'.

It will mean that corporations, who have ONLY ONE objective .... making more and more MONEY, will have finally and completely have taken over our government. (And, say 'Goodbye' to your ability to influence any-thing.)

To make matters worse ... and ESPECIALLY for my Conservative Friends ... this case was EXPANDED in scope and reach by CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS! Talk about "Activist" judges!! Somehow, though, I'd bet that you will hear NOT ONE word about such activism by Rush, Mitch McConnell, Boehner and the like ...

This is truly a scary case for democracy in America ... and you've heard NOTHING about it on virtually any of our electronic, CORPORATE-controlled, media.

The origins of this case go back to a 1971 letter written by then soon-to-be-nominated U.S. Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell to the U.S. Chamber of commerce:

When Did The Profit Motive Become The Only Reason To Do Anything?

How about this for a New Rule: Not everything in America has to make a profit. It used to be that there were some services and institutions so vital to our nation that they were exempt from market pressures. Some things we just didn't do for money. The United States always defined capitalism, but it didn't used to define us. But now it's becoming all that we are.

Did you know, for example, that there was a time when being called a "war profiteer" was a bad thing? But now our war zones are dominated by private contractors and mercenaries who work for corporations. There are more private contractors in Iraq than American troops, and we pay them generous salaries to do jobs the troops used to do for themselves ­-- like laundry. War is not supposed to turn a profit, but our wars have become boondoggles for weapons manufacturers and connected civilian contractors.

Prisons used to be a non-profit business, too. And for good reason --­ who the hell wants to own a prison? By definition you're going to have trouble with the tenants. But now prisons are big business. A company called the Corrections Corporation of America is on the New York Stock Exchange, which is convenient since that's where all the real crime is happening anyway. The CCA and similar corporations actually lobby Congress for stiffer sentencing laws so they can lock more people up and make more money. That's why America has the world;s largest prison population ­-- because actually rehabilitating people would have a negative impact on the bottom line.

Television news is another area that used to be roped off from the profit motive. When Walter Cronkite died, it was odd to see news anchor after news anchor talking about how much better the news coverage was back in Cronkite's day. I thought, "Gee, if only you were in a position to do something about it."

But maybe they aren't. Because unlike in Cronkite's day, today's news has to make a profit like all the other divisions in a media conglomerate. That's why it wasn't surprising to see the CBS Evening News broadcast live from the Staples Center for two nights this month, just in case Michael Jackson came back to life and sold Iran nuclear weapons. In Uncle Walter's time, the news division was a loss leader. Making money was the job of The Beverly Hillbillies. And now that we have reporters moving to Alaska to hang out with the Palin family, the news is The Beverly Hillbillies.

And finally, there's health care. It wasn't that long ago that when a kid broke his leg playing stickball, his parents took him to the local Catholic hospital, the nun put a thermometer in his mouth, the doctor slapped some plaster on his ankle and you were done. The bill was $1.50, plus you got to keep the thermometer.

If conservatives get to call universal health care "socialized medicine," I get to call private health care "soulless vampires making money off human pain." The problem with President Obama's health care plan isn't socialism, it's capitalism.

And if medicine is for profit, and war, and the news, and the penal system, my question is: what's wrong with firemen? Why don't they charge? They must be commies. Oh my God! That explains the red trucks!

But like everything else that's good and noble in life, some Wall Street wizard decided that hospitals could be big business, so now they're run by some bean counters in a corporate plaza in Charlotte. In the U.S. today, three giant for-profit conglomerates own close to 600 hospitals and other health care facilities. They're not hospitals anymore; they're Jiffy Lubes with bedpans. America's largest hospital chain, HCA, was founded by the family of Bill Frist, who perfectly represents the Republican attitude toward health care: it's not a right, it's a racket. The more people who get sick and need medicine, the higher their profit margins. Which is why they're always pushing the Jell-O.

Because medicine is now for-profit we have things like "recision," where insurance companies hire people to figure out ways to deny you coverage when you get sick, even though you've been paying into your plan for years.

Proscecutorial Misconduct & Don Siegelman

Please join 75 state Attorneys General in urging Eric Holder to investigate prosecutorial misconduct in the case of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

Professor Bennett Gershman of Pace University School of Law, the preeminent scholar in the field of prosecutorial misconduct, who wrote the book, "Prosecutorial Misconduct", said: "I have never encountered another prosecution in which it appears so clearly that the prosecutors were zealously bent on pursuing an individual, rather than on a crime...As an example of bad faith prosecution, the Siegelman case may be without parallel."

"There is no better example of the corrosive effect on the reputation of the Department of Justice...than the prosecution of Don Siegelman."

And the retired Chief U.S. District Court Judge in the Northern District of Alabama, U.W. Clemon said: the Siegelman case in the Northern District "was the most unfounded criminal case over which I have presided in my entire judicial career." The case was "completely without legal merit."

Please urge Attorney General Holder to investigate the prosecutorial misconduct in the Siegelman case and end this outrageous injustice.

Areas of misconduct in the Siegelman case include:

- Prosecuted for something that has never been a crime.
- Selectively prosecuted.
- Witnesses were coached, false testimony given and evidence withheld.
- Brought to trial one month before the Democratic Primary.
- The prosecutor is the wife of Karl Rove's best friend and Siegelman's opponent's campaign manager!
- Sworn testimony that Karl Rove was involved.

Rescind KBR Bonuses

The Department of Defense just gave $80 million in bonuses to KBR, a former subsidiary of Halliburton, for electrical wiring contracts in Iraq. But in a dramatic Senate hearing, the DoD's own documents revealed that U.S. soldiers have died via electrocution as a direct result of KBR's shoddy and substandard work.

Evidence revealed this week has shown that eighteen U.S. soldiers have died as a result of KBR's work -- including a decorated Green Beret whose death was classified by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Division as a "negligent homicide."

I just signed a petition asking Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to rescind the KBR bonuses, pursue criminal charges against the officials responsible for the electrocution deaths of U,S. soldiers, and stop awarding defense contracts to KBR & Halliburton. Outraged: CEO Pay at TARP $$ Recipients

Yes, Vikram Pandit of CITI Bank received OVER $38,000,000 in compensation in 2008 while his company was apparently in imminent danger of collapse ... hence the need to accept $50,000,000,000 in TARP funds. (Oh, yea, and this guy was caught trying to spend some number of $millions REMODELING his offices!)

This is an outrage regardless of whether you are a 'Democrat', 'Republican' or ... whatever.

(You do remember, don't you, that in October 2008 Hank Paulson came to congress on a Thursday and said he needed the $700,000,000,000 for TARP ... A Day in the Life of "Joe Republican"

I heard this again today on the Thom Hartmann radio show. It truly is worthy of thoughful consideration ... particularly by my "self-made" Republican blue-collar friends:

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.


All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer’s medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.


He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.


In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.


Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.


He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.


Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union.


If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn’t think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.


It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the (Republican!) Great Depression.


Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university.


Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads.


He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers’ Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans.


The house didn’t have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification.


He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to.


Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn’t mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: “We don’t need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I’m a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have.”

Help Gov. Siegelman

I received the the letter below from Gov. Siegelman this morning. Please read it. Then, look into your heart and help.

I need your help on a critical issue. Time is of the essence. I'm asking that you email influential editors and Attorney General Eric Holder. Attorney General Holder recently abandoned the conviction against former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens (R). His decision had nothing to do with the merits of the Stevens case, but was based on misconduct on the part of the Department of Justice. Attorney General Holder did the right thing.It's been a long time since we have seen the DOJ act courageously.

Attorney General Holder's action gives me hope that justice can be restored and our democracy can be preserved.

An important difference between the Stevens case and my case is that I was not accused of taking even a penny for myself. In my case there are many instances of government wrongdoing. American Trial Lawyer Magazine tagged me as America's number one "Political Prisoner," Time Magazine said I was a victim of selective prosecution, and CBS's 60 Minutes exposed that the government used false testimony to convict me and withheld critical documents from my lawyers. The House Judiciary Committee even has sworn testimony that Karl Rove was involved in my prosecution as well as other serious prosecutorial misconduct.

Attorney General Holder threw out the case against Ted Stevens because the government withheld information that could have been critical to the outcome of Senator Stevens' trial.

There's far more prosecutorial misconduct in my case than in the Stevens case. Please read this letter from my lawyer to the Attorney General (PDF) which outlines some of those areas of misconduct.

After reading the letter, please email the following editors commending Eric Holder for helping to restore justice by dropping the charges against Senator Stevens but suggesting that the gross prosecutorial misconduct in my case far exceeds the misconduct in the Stevens case. Tell them the Attorney General should investigate my case and that, when he does, he will find it cries out for justice and should also be dismissed.
